Contractors working for Xcel Energy will begin installing nine
warning sirens along the Lower Chippewa River in Chippewa and Eau
Claire counties. The warning sirens would be used to quickly and
safely alert nearby residents if there was a catastrophic failure
at one of Xcel Energy's hydroelectric dams that caused water to
rise rapidly downstream.
